Bloch–Siegert Effect for Surface Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Sounding Experiments in the Unsaturated Zone

چکیده
Abstract The Bloch–Siegert effect is relevant for NMR experiments where components of the excitation pulse other than circularly polarized component have an influence on evolution magnetization spin system under consideration. For linearly fields this happens at amplitudes higher roughly one tenth magnitude static magnetic field. Since surface nuclear resonance (SNMR) experiments, also called magnetic-resonance-soundings (MRS), are conducted in relatively low local field earth, can quickly become relevant. This especially case SNMR unsaturated zone, due to short relaxation times fast pulses high intensity must be used. To describe effect, we use average Hamiltonian approximation obtained by Magnus expansion up fifth order, as well solution Bloch equations. results these approximations tested against simulations and it shown that they only valid limited ranges amplitude. sensitivity kernels described verified with experimental data a small scale sensor water containers.

متن کاملA comparison of time domain electromagnetic and surface nuclear magnetic resonance sounding for subsurface water on Mars
[1] The time domain electromagnetic (TDEM) method has enjoyed wide success in terrestrial groundwater exploration, and the contrast in electrical conductivity between dry overburden and groundwater containing even a small amount of dissolved solids on Mars will yield a robust response. However, moist clays or even ores (e.g., massive hematite) will also be electrically conductive and could be m...
متن کاملSurface Nuclear Magnetic Resonance for direct assessment of groundwater
The principle of nuclear magnetic resonance, well known in physics, physical chemistry as well as in medicine, has now successfully adapted to measurements at the Earth’s surface to assess the existence of groundwater and aquifer parameters. This new geophysical technique of Surface Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (SNMR) in the last 10 years or so has already passed the experimental stage to become ...

Introduction Radiofrequency planar microcoils are used to increase the resolution of magnetic resonance images of small samples. In this study, we aimed to design and fabricate a spiral planar microcoil constructed on a double-sided printed circuit board (PCB). It has four rings with an internal diameter of 241 microns tuned and matched at 63.8 MHz. Materials and Methods To achieve the maximum ...
